The Wild Blue Yonder

From Bataan Death March

For those of you that know the history of Rogue Fitness then you know Eric Jones.  Take a look back at Day 2 at the Rogue Facility This whole thing started with three guys: Troy Taylor, Eric Jones & Bill Henniger

All of us have put in more unpaid hours than imaginable because we love it.  Eric has been no less of a partner in crime than Troy or I.  He is in the gym at least 6 days a week and many times 7.  He has officially graduated from his apprenticeship and earned the level of “Captain” for which he will forever remembered at Rogue.

Per the norm we name a workout or WOD after our team members when they leave for the military:

“EJ”

7 Front Squat 135M/95W

15 Pushups

500M Row

5 Rounds for Time!

Eric is headed out to become a V22 Osprey pilot in the US Air Force and has aspirations of becoming a Pararescueman once he receives his pilot wings.  As anyone that has met Eric can tell you, there is little doubt he will achieve his goals.  His father LT Colonel Shelby Jones retired with a highly decorated career.  His sister is in the Air Force Academy.  That is a whole bunch of Air Force.

To say Eric will be missed is an understatement, I am certain he will never be far.  If you are in the Air Force, just pray that he gets stationed at your base because it will be decked out with the best equipment on earth.

Eric was instrumental in designing the Rogue Store and it will take more than one to replace him.  I just hope he realizes that we take precedent over pilot training.

For those of you that know Eric, here is his email address: eric@roguefitness.com

There will be a party and a very big party at that.  Eric takes off on December 12 so look for details in the very near future.

"51 Get ir Duns"

Dennis C. had his 51st birthday Rogue Style yesterday. Dennis requested, I mean demanded, that everyone wear a party hat, and blow their party horn between each exercise. Everyone did so with unexpected zeal. Especially Sam C. Happy birthday Dennis C. I hope you had a good time.

Rogue Running Team is back in action!!

Dust off your sneakers and dig out your mittens!
You Rogue Warriors asked for it and now you got it! The Rogue Running Team will take to the trail, the parking lot and wherever else we can get some miles in as we prepare for the Holiday Run @ Sharon Woods December 14th, 2008.

The Rogue Running Team will meet every Sunday at 11AM, starting November 16th, to train for the run. You Rogue Athletes know that we don’t have treadmills. So dig out your mittens, sweat pants, and your beanies because we will be hitting the trial regardless of the weather. Rain or shine, freezing or not, Rogue athletes are not fair weather athletes. We want to “train as you fight” and if I recall correctly Sharon Woods isn’t heated or indoors.

How do I join the Rogue Running Team?
– Tell one of the Rogue coaches that you want to put your fitness to the test.
– Sign the sign-in sheet in the lobby, be sure to put your current e-mail address.
– The cost is $30 and that includes long sleeve thermal “Rogue Hand-Grenade” shirt
You can pay by cash or you can just authorize us to automatically debit your checking account that you have set up for your membership. If you already have a long sleeve shirt you can choose on of our other shirts.
– Register at Run Wild Racing( http://www.runwildracing.com/RaceInfo.asp?nRaceID=183 ). Cost to register for the race is $30.

Note: There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION, so be sure to register early and before the event. No race day registration allowed in the Metro Parks.

Race Day!
On race day all of the Rogue Running Team will meet up at Rogue Fitness at 7:30 AM and we will convoy over to Sharon Woods to warm up. Rogue will have picked up all of the registration packets, number bibs and event t-shirts for the competitors earlier in the week. So all you have to do is show up and run your butts off then drink some hot chocolate, pretty simple.

Even if you’re not racing we want you to show up to cheer on your fellow Rogue athletes as they all try not to freeze their butts off as they run 4 miles through Sharon Woods park.

Schedule
16 November 2008 – First Rogue Running Team workout at Rogue Fitness, Gahanna
12 December 2008 – Rogue picks up race packets at
Road Runner Sports – Columbus 535 Lakeview Plaza Drive – Worthington, Ohio 43085 (614) 896-2090
14 December 2008
7:00 AM – Meet at Rogue Fitness to convoy to Sharon Woods
7:30 AM – Depart Rogue Fitness
8:00 AM – Arrive at Sharon Woods.
8:15 AM – Pick up timing chips. Warm up for run.
9:00 AM – Rogue Runners hit the trail and the Rogue Athletes not running better be blowing their lungs out cheering or there will be burpees!
9:30 AM – 1st Rogue Runner crosses the finish line and receives their hot chocolate.
10:00 AM – All runners are in, high fives and “atta-boys” passed around.
10:01 AM – We all run to our cars so we don’t freeze to death and we head home, GOOD JOB!!

What does made in USA mean?

LOOK FOR THIS ICON IN OUR STORE

From Rogue Factory Store

We pride ourselves on the fact that we push for all of our vendors to manufacture their equipment in the United States.  If you didn’t know this, here are a few examples:

1) Rogue Rings, Pullup Systems and all of Rogue Metal Fabrication: Made in Columbus, Ohio by Ian Maclean & Crew

2) Rogue & Pendlay Bars – All made in the United States

3) Rogue HiTemp Bumpers – All made in Alabama by a guy named Chuck and his crew

4) Sorinex Equipment – All made in the US by the Sorin crew, don’t believe me just ask them then run!

5) Dynamax Medicine Balls – Made in Texas by Jim & Rick Cawley.

This is just to name a few, look for new products built by Rogue here in the United States!  We are building new squat stands for the United States Marine Corps, look for them available to the public in the next couple weeks.  This is only a sneak peak at the products in the lineup.

We are building a PT course for the US Army at FT Campbell, just wait to see this Olive Drab badass piece!

Our business is run by Veterans of the United States Military and we are proud that we do our part to keep American industry in America.

Thanks to all of you who keep all of these companies churning!!

Consolidated Shipping!

How does Rogue save on shipping, here is a quick example:

If you buy equipment from a drop-shipper they send the order out to different vendors for them to fill.  Let’s say you ordered the Alpha Package that package includes a bar, bumpers, collars, rings, med balls, jump rope and an AbMat.  That would be 7 companies that need to ship your gear to you hence seven different opportunities to make a mistake. The shipping costs will be much higher because of 7 shipments which will vary from parcel to freight.  Anything over 150lbs will most likely be shipped freight.

We have worked very hard to work with our vendors and now have all of those items warehoused here.  We take all of that equipment and put it on one skid.  Here is a picture of the skid with just the bumpers:

Here is the Alpha Package ready to ship!  Next week there will be some happy US Coast Guard bases.

We have not sacrificed on the level of quality of our equipment and the level of quality in our shipping consolidation.  We continue to evolve and learn from our inefficiencies.  We are not without mistakes but we learn from them.  We pride ourselves on learning from our customers and listening to their suggestions.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions: bill@roguefitness.com or call us: 614.358.6190

Sometimes its like a carnival here at Rogue.

Remember the carnival scam, I mean game where you had to try to snag a plastic duck as it floated around a tub? Well that’s exactly what came to mind as the Rogue athletes lunge walked around the gym. Only thing missing was a greasy “Carny” and some cheap, oversized stuff animals.
Rest them hammies tonight you Rogue warriors ’cause you’er sure to feel them tomorrow 🙂

Carolyn is baa-aack!!

Actually Carolyn has been back with us for a while after her injury. But now it is healed up enough where she can participate in the “WODs” with very little scaling. And where Carolyn does have to scale back on weight she makes up for it by going faster during the workout. And completing the workout faster is just another way of increasing the intensity.

Evening Schedule to return to the half-hour…

Starting Monday November 10th the evening classes will be bumped back to the half-hour.
Meaning:

Monday through Thursday

Open S&C – 4:30-5:30

All-Level Class – 5:30-6:30

All-Level Class – 6:30-7:30

Open S&C/RWLC – 7:30-8:30

The Friday and weekend Classes will remain as they are. Check the “Calendar” link above to see the complete schedule.

We at Rogue aren’t afraid to admit when a mistake has been made. This week we changed the schedule hoping to add more flexibility for our athletes, we changed all of the classes to All-Level, and to get our athletes in and out of the gym before it got too late in the evening, we moved the evening classes back a half-hour. However just a couple of days into the new schedule it became immediately clear to us that the evening schedule change just would not work for everyone. We sincerely want all of our athletes to workout with us and we will do whatever it takes to accommodate your schedules. Within reason of course 🙂

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused any of our Rogue athletes.

2000 meters AGAIN!?!?! Yes my friends…

…and that was just the “skill/strength” session! Many or our new members, straight out of the Elements program, got their first taste of the 2000 meter row time trial. And in true Rogue style they pulled the 2000 meters with everything they had well knowing that there was still a “WOD” waiting for them after they finished. Not many people have the intestinal fortitude (guts) to become a Rogue member. But the folks that do become part of the Rogue team truly know and understand that it takes hard work to reach your goals, fitness related or not.>

Check these out!

The Rogue “Hand Grenade” is pretty darn cool if we do say so ourselves. The t-shirts can be had for $20 and the long sleeve thermal $30. If you would like one or two we can put them on your gym account for you.

Rogue Weightlifting Club's first workout was today.

The Rogue Weightlifting Club RWLC is open to all Rogue athletes. Participation will be the key to its success. RWLC workouts are focused solely on the Olympic lifts, the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk with an emphasis on technique first and big weight second. We know that the big weights will come once the athletes have a firm grasp of the technique required to be successfull in weightlifting. Now don’t get us wrong, we will be lifting heavy. Saturdays will be max lift days where we will find our max in any one or more of the lifts we use in Weightlifting. And stay tuned for our first Personal Record (PR) event which will be a max day that will be run much like a Weightlifting competition. The friends, family of the lifters and fellow Rogue Athletes will be encouraged to attend. There will be food and drink afterwards and who knows, maybe even awards.
