New Inov8 F-Lite 195 Colors

The Inov8 F-Lite 195 is one of the most commonly used shoes in CrossFit for many reasons:

They are some of the lightest shoes out there, weighing in at just 195 grams, and they are a sturdy, flexible, supportive, flat-soled shoe that can withstand most every demand that you’d encounter in CrossFit.

There is a minimal, 3 mm, the differential between the heel and toe. This minimal differential maximizes an athlete’s overall speed, power, stability, and responsiveness, whether forward, vertically, or laterally. This translates into excellent stability for many of the core lifts. The shoes are also perfect for POSE method running and bodyweight movements like pull-ups, box jumps, and burpees.

There are now two new colors available Gray/Red and Stormtrooper.

Rogue Parallettes

Inspired by the 2009 CrossFit Games, no one makes a set of parallettes better than Rogue signature parallettes. These can support any weight and will not shift under pressure. Feel free to test your limits with explosive swing throughs or weighted handstand pushups. These are also perfect for everyone’s favorite exercise: The L-Sit.

Rogue Parallettes are hand fabricated in-house from 11 Gauge steel tube, 1.5″ Steel Tube and powder coated using a rough textured black coating similar to ROGUE Rings and Racks. The unique pass-through design allows multiple units to be connected in a row with standard pipe. You can choose an independent set or add a cross member for locked in adjustment. Unlike PVC parallettes that weaken over time and fail at the joints, these will last a lifetime.

Garage Gym Rogue Style

There is something extremely liberating about building your own garage gym. You are no longer limited by the rules and hours of the globo gym.

Unlike building a state of the art home theater, where you would have to watch hundreds of movies a year to have a chance of making it cheaper than going to a commercial movie theater, you can build a world-class strength and conditioning facility in your garage for less than a husband and wife would pay for a year of gym membership. Then, of course, you never have to pay for a gym membership for the rest of your life.

Inov8 Minimalist Running Shoes

The Inov8 brand has quickly become a favorite among the minimalist running shoe community. They also work great for CrossFit workouts that combine running and lifting movements.

The running community is finally coming to grips with the fact that the traditional, bulky, overly supportive, running shoes made by the major manufacturers are actually causing injuries rather than preventing them. The problems stem from the traditional shoes leading to altered form and weakening of the intrinsic muscles of the foot.

Inov8 does not make traditional running shoes, they have always focused on making shoes that do not alter people’s natural gait, but instead protect the feet from rocks and other hazards while allowing people to run with the natural gait that we all evolved to use. They also have a wide toe box which allows your foot to spread naturally to absorb much of the shock of each stride. Over time this will strengthen the muscles in the feet, lead to fewer injuries and a more powerful stride.

The Inov8 F-Lite 195 and F-Lite 230 are named for their weight. The 195’s weigh 195 grams and the 230’s weigh 230 grams. They were designed as mountain racing shoes, but have probably become the most popular shoe for CrossFit. The minimal heel-to-toe differential 6mm (1/4″)on the 230 and the 3 mm (1/8″) on the 195 and the lack of the extraneous “squishy” padding make the shoes excellent for movements that require stable footing, like squat cleans and thrusters, the light weight does not hinder exercises like pull-ups and muscle ups and flexibility of the shoes are fantastic for exercises like burpees and box jumps. Of course, the shoes also excel when being used for running whether it is part of a CrossFit workout or a dedicated run.

If you are of the opinion, like many, that the only thing a shoe needs is a piece of rubber on the sole to protect you from glass, you will love the Inov8 Bare-X 200. There is no heel-to-toe differential and no midsole. This is the closest you will get to running barefoot without exposing your feet to the elements.

Inov8’s were such an instant success when they were introduced that distributors have always had a hard time keeping them in stock. Try a pair. You will not go back.

The Redesigned S-Series Squat Stands

Available in 4 versions with different heights, 72” (S-1) and (S-4), 92” (S-2) and 110” (S-3). The new S-Series Squat Stands are compatible with many of the attachments of the Infinity racks to provide everything you need for a world-class strength and conditioning program, while only taking up a 4×4 foot area of floor space.

The H-Base S-4 squat stand separates offer even more efficient floor usage as they can be stored against the wall when not in use. They are also probably the most rock solid independent stands available.

In addition to using any of the stands for squats, presses, bench presses, clean or snatch pulls, the S-2 and S-3 add the ability to use the stands for pull-ups and ring work including dips, pushups and muscle ups. The 92” S-2 places the pull-up bar high enough for most athletes, but the 110” S-3 will get the bar high enough for just about anyone.

The S-2 and S-3 come standard with a fat/skinny pull-up bar allowing you to choose either a 1.25” or 2” bar thickness. Possible additional configurations include adding a Dirty South pull-up bar to the S-2 or S-3 for 2 different pull-up heights, as well as adding spotter bars, wheels or feet to attach the rack to the ground for the S-1, S-2 or S-3. You can also add horizontal plate storage to the sides. With your S-2 or S-3 bolted into the ground or your platform or with enough weight on the side storage, you can use it for kipping pull-ups and with the addition of the Dirty South bar attachment to your ground anchored stand, it will even work for bar muscle ups.

All 4 stands use the same West Side Hole Pattern as the R-3 Rack and Infinity Racks: 1” spacing at bench press/clean pull zone and 2” spacing above and below. They also all come with the new Rogue low profile J-cups with UHMW plastic liners to protect the knurling on your bars.

Like everything Rogue makes, these are built like tanks. They are made in the U.S.A with 2×3” steel with laser cut holes and 5/8” bolts and fasteners. Any parts that had the potential of wearing out like threaded pins were avoided, so you will be able to pass this stuff down to your grandchildren.

Rogue Dog Sled

If you don’t regularly push and pull sleds in your workouts, you do not know what you are missing, and you will feel your lack of preparedness if called upon to perform this movement in competition or in life. This fact was proven at the 2011 CrossFit Games where the sled workout was often the deciding factor in determining where in the ranking order an athlete would end up.

Sled work is not only extraordinarily metabolically taxing, pushing a heavy sled calls upon coordination of muscles from your feet, to your hands and everywhere in between. In this way, the exercise is similar to the overhead squat.

The U.S.A made Rogue Dog Sled is not only the most cost-effective push and pull a sled on the market, its small footprint makes it easier to store and move around and the small amount of total surface area helps you maximize the plates that you have available. It also includes plastic skids to ensure that you do not damage your floors. Get one and take your athletic gains to the next level!

Flying Pull-up Bar

The flying pull-up is an amazing exercise that really teaches people how to generate explosive momentum as well as develop good hand-eye coordination. Often learning to perform flying pull-ups is the final piece that an athlete needs in order to figure out muscle ups. Until recently, however, if you wanted to add them to your workouts, you needed to spend the money for a custom rig.

Now everyone can enjoy the benefits of this essential exercise, with this attachment for your 9 or 12 foot Rogue Infinity Rack. The angle of the rig has been perfected to ensure it will fit in most gyms. Like all the Infinity Rack attachments, it can be installed within minutes. This is the attachment that will set your home gym or commercial strength and conditioning facility apart from the competition, and of course, it is Made in the U.S.A.

More Bar Questions

There are many variables to consider when choosing a bar. Here are some questions that you might be asking:

Do you choose a 25 mm, 28 mm bar, 28.5 mm or 29 mm bar or do you go even thicker?

What is bar whip and do you need it?

What finish is best for you?

What knurling texture will best suit you?

Olympic Competition bars are 25 mm in diameter for women and 28 mm for men. These diameters have 2 effects. First they allow most people to properly perform a hook grip. Second, the thinner steel is able to “whip”. A hook grip, where your thumb is gripped between the fingers and the bar, is not only stronger, it allows you to grip the bar while keeping your forearms somewhat relaxed. When your arms are relaxed you are much more able to perform the rapid movements required for the clean and the snatch. The whip in the bar allows an advanced lifter to use the bar as a spring by taking advantage of the fact that the bar bends under the load and acceleration and then springs back to it’s original shape.

It takes stronger steel to reach the same strength as a 28.5 mm or higher diameter with a 28 mm bar and therefore these bars are typically more expensive if made to stand up to the demands of Olympic lifting.

28.5 mm bars still allow athletes to use a hook grip and whip pretty well, but not as well as 28 mm bars. 28.5 mm also works well for Powerlifting. Therefore many hybrid, general purpose or CrossFit bars have 28.5 mm shafts. Most of the bars used for men at the CrossFit Games for the past several years have been 28.5 mm.

Most dedicated Powerlifting bars are 29 mm. They do not make separate bars for men and women, since a hook grip is not required. Athletes use an alternating grip for deadlift that allows nearly any hand size to grip effectively.

29 mm bars are much stiffer than 28 mm bars so some of the whip of an Olympic competition bar is lost in a Powerlifitng bar. In competion, the whip is not needed as much since the power lifts are not as dynamic as Olympic lifts, although some people do use the whip to get out of the bottom of a squat.

The thicker a bar gets, the more comfortable it feels on your shoulders for back squats and the easier it is for a bar manufacturer to make a really strong bar. Also gripping a thicker bar will help develop grip strength. Rogue sells bars with diameters as high as 50 mm specifically to work on grip strength.

An uncoated bar often offers the best grip available without having to make a sharp knurl that will tear up your hands. However, if you live in a humid climate or near the ocean, the bar will quickly rust unless it is made out of stainless steel which is much more expensive. The rust will not affect the performance of the bar unless it is excessive, but it will discolor the bar which is a problem for many people.

Chrome offers rust resistance but is generally more slippery than uncoated steel. However, there are many types of chrome and if done well the grip can be quite good. Many of the best bars in the world have a chrome finish.

Nearly everyone agrees that the best knurling texture for Olympic lifting is a fine knurl that is not sharp. This is accomplished by closer spacing of the cuts and deeper cuts than you will see on the bar that comes with the 300-pound weight set from your local sporting goods store. Knurling like this takes precision equipment and is time-consuming to create, which is one of the things that makes bars like this so special.

There is less consensus in the Powerlifting world with respect to knurling texture. Some athletes like the same knurling texture as the Olympic lifters. However, some prefer a slightly sharper knurl that comes from making the cuts a little deeper. Rogue sells power bars with both styles of knurling.

The Olympic style knurling seems to be perfect for CrossFit movements and workouts which is why most quality bars aimed at the CrossFit market have this texture.

Once you know the answers to these questions, you can find the perfect bar to suit your needs here.
