Burgener and Rippetoe Bar

Mike Burgener and Mark Rippetoe have teamed up with industry leader York Barbell to provide the ultimate Olympic weightlifting/powerlifting bar that is perfect for CrossFit workouts.

The B&R Bar by York Barbell is produced to their precise specifications. It has a 29 mm shaft with a 200,000 lb. yield strength, marked for both powerlifting and weightlifting movements. It features the perfect light weightlifting knurl that has made York Barbell famous, with a center knurl for squats and an extra half-inch of smooth steel between
the knurls to protect your shins during deadlifts, cleans, and snatches. Manufactured with sintered bushings in the sleeves for reliable spin and low maintenance, and sleeves attached with the same bulletproof end caps used on York competition weightlifting bars, the B&R is designed for heavy commercial gym use in a wide variety of training environments.

Most barbell manufacturers add chrome or other plating material to their bars to prevent discoloration from rust — it is not there to improve performance. The B&R Bar by York Barbell bar is made for serious lifting, not for looking shiny on the rack. No coating can
ever match the look and feel of natural steel, and this quality old-school bar will age to a natural oxidized finish that matures along with your training and experience. This is the last bar you will ever have to buy. It will join the many tens of thousands of bars made
by York Barbell since the 1950’s that are still going strong.

The All New Adipure Trainer

Here is the minimalist shoe you have been waiting for!

It is as close to barefoot as you can get while still protecting your feet from glass, rocks and other hazards.

It has become increasingly clear that overly supportive traditional running shoes cause more injuries than they prevent and lead to weak intrinsic foot muscles and an unnatural gait.

The Adipure Trainer strengthens your foot to strengthen your game with speed, agility and balance. Anatomically rounded outsole and individual toe stalls mimic your foot’s natural motion. Some of the features include:

2nd Skin upper with a sock-like fit.
Restriction-free movement from
your heel to your toes allows muscles to move more naturally and
strengthens your feet and legs.

OrthoLite Sockliner provides long-lasting cushion with an
antimicrobial protection and moisture management.

Adipure Tooling: The specially engineered midsole/outsole
construction enables superb responsive feeling of ground contact. This
natural way of training feels like working out barefoot, resulting in
increase of muscle activation and higher training efficiency.

Flexible NON MARKING rubber outsole for traction and durability
including flex grooves in the toes for increased flexibility.

Available in men’s and women’s sizes.

Any closer to a natural feel and you would be barefoot!

Competition Ring Straps

One of the biggest complaints that people have about dealing with gymnastics rings is the ability to set them up and adjust them to different heights quickly. You often spend a lot of time making small adjustments to ensure the rings are level. After supplying rings for the 2011 CrossFit Games Regional Competition all over the world, and adjusting them for each heat, Rogue realized that they could make things much more efficient for the 2011 CrossFit Games Final.
The Rogue Fitness Competition Straps come in 8 foot and 6 foot versions and allows for set up of your gymnastics rings in seconds without worrying about keeping them level. Setting them up is as easy as throwing the straps over the bar and clipping the carabiner into one of of the divisions that is sewn into the straps every 3 inches.

Having the straps held static also eliminates the possibility that the buckle will slide down to interfere with an athlete during a workout. Both the athletes and the judges at the CrossFit games loved the new system.

Whether you are in a situation where you have to set up your rings every day, often change the height of your rings to accommodate different exercises, such as dips, muscle ups and pushups, or have a busy gym where every athlete is a different height, you will love the ability to make precise adjustments quickly anytime you need them.

Adidas PowerLift Trainers

The new shoe from Adidas, one of the original names in weightlifting shoes. The years of experience and expertise of Adidas has been brought to a more affordable shoe aimed at the Powerlifting market. However, the shoe also does well when being used for the Olympic lifts. The Adidas PowerLift Trainer has an EVA wedge in the heal for a very moderate 0.6 inch heal raise that is perfect for both Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. The toe of the shoe is a little more flexible than some, which makes it perfect for CrossFit workouts that involve movements like box jumps and double unders in addition to lifting movements.

Add to that that these shoes are some of the cheapest on the market and are available in 4 different colors and you will have a tough time figuring out why you have not bought these yet.

High bar back squat or low bar back squat?

There are several differences between the high bar back squat and the low bar back squat. Each type of squat has it’s supporters.

The high bar back squat is often advocated by Olympic weightlifters because the more upright position is closer to that of a front squat or overhead squat. However, the movement does have some disadvantages.  A large portion of the weight is sitting on the lifters spine and it does not bring in as much of the posterior chain as a low bar back squat.

A low bar back squat, where the bar sits just below the spine of the scapula, has 3 main differences from the high bar back squat. 1. By placing the weight lower on the back, the lever arm between the load and the hips is shortened, often allowing the athlete to lift more weight. 2. The weight sits on the shoulder muscles (deltoids and infraspinatus) rather than directly on the bones of the spine, 3. The more horizontal position of the back brings more of the posterior chain into the lift. For these reasons, the low bar position is often favored by people who use the movement as part of a strength building program to support CrossFit or other sports. However, as stated above, the more horizontal position in the bottom of the squat does not as directly correlate with the more upright squats of the Olympic lifters in competition.

The Frog

We are always in search of something that we can take out of the hands of overseas suppliers and into the hands of someone local.  We are danger close to doing just that.

We have been talking back and forth with our facebook crew and with Chris Spealler to design an American made jump rope.  May sound like something small and inconsequential but it isn’t for a guy named Animal.

Animal is a local molder and basically one of those guys that can figure out how to make anything.  We have worked out how to mold the names and all kinds of cool stuff into the handle but we were scratching our head on what some of the parts were.  Then he found the arm, it is off a remote control car.  When I was a kid I had the Frog.  That was one of the coolest things in the world at the time and maybe still now.  As a side note I purchased it at Slater’s Hardware Store in Lancaster Ohio.  That hardware store has survived the economic down turn in large part due to their insane cool stuff factor.  They have rockets, huge airplanes and all kinds of cool stuff.  Steve makes 550LB Atlas stones and big ass logs as well.

I have diverted from the jump rope a bit so back to my point, we can make anything we want in the US.  We have been doing it for years which is a distinct advantage.
