Adidas PowerLift Trainers

The new shoe from Adidas, one of the original names in weightlifting shoes. The years of experience and expertise of Adidas has been brought to a more affordable shoe aimed at the Powerlifting market. However, the shoe also does well when being used for the Olympic lifts. The Adidas PowerLift Trainer has an EVA wedge in the heal for a very moderate 0.6 inch heal raise that is perfect for both Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. The toe of the shoe is a little more flexible than some, which makes it perfect for CrossFit workouts that involve movements like box jumps and double unders in addition to lifting movements.

Add to that that these shoes are some of the cheapest on the market and are available in 4 different colors and you will have a tough time figuring out why you have not bought these yet.

Barlean’s Ultra DPA-EHA Fish Oil

Once people read about the benefits of fish oil they want to know how much they need to take. The general recommendation is for 2-4 grams of EPA/DHA (Types of Omega-3 fatty acids) per day. The problem is that with many products, people need to take 20, 30 or even 40 capsules per day to reach that number. Even with high quality products this can lead to stomach upset and fish flavored burps. The other problem that people run into is that products with high enough concentrations of EPA and DHA to get the number of capsules down to a reasonable number
often cost up to $60 per bottle. If you buy cheaper products they end up being even more expensive due to the number of capsules needed to reach the recommended daily amounts.

With Barlean’s Ultra DPA-EHA Fish Oil you can reach the recommended amount with just 4 capsules and the low price will surprise you.

Although the mechanism for the health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids remains controversial, the results have been proven. This AHA Scientific Statement summarizes the research done to date and the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation.

The amount of Omega 3 fatty acids in the American diet has dropped by over 90% percent in the last 100 years, largely due to the switch from animal fats in the diets to vegetable oils and the switch from grasses to grains as the source of feed for meat producing animals. Unless you eat 100% wild caught fish, free range chicken and grass fed beef, you are most likely not getting the correct ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids in your diet.

A great illustration of the effects of Omega-3 versus Omega-6 fatty acids in the diet is the fact that the high concentration of Omega-6 fatty acids in corn and other grains fed to cattle in feed lots leads to stomach inflammation, ulcers and infection, necessitating the use of antibiotics in the vast majority of the beef produced in the United States. If the lack of Omega-3 fatty acids is doing that to cattle, this is further evidence that without Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, you are opening yourself up to unnecessary inflammation. However, even though feeding grass, which has a high Omega-3 concentration to cattle eliminates the need for antibiotics, the fact that the cattle take 2-3 times as long to grow to full size makes it economically beneficial for most ranchers to produce grain fed beef that is not nearly as nutritional as grass fed.

With the current state of agriculture in the United States, for Americans to get the EPA and DHA they need, supplementation is necessary. Barlean’s Ultra DPA-EHA Fish Oil offers the best combination of convenience, price and efficacy available.

Building Families of Equipment

If you go to any good restaurant most likely some where behind the scenes someone is trying to use the fewest amount of ingredients as possible.  Our latest creation does just that:

New S-1, S-2 & S-3 Squat Stands

The base is the same across all three squat stands, here are some of many options:

1) Height: 70”, 90”, 108”

2) Pullup Bar on S-2 & 3:  You can use the 1.25” OD bars or get the 2” OD bar – Just flip the bar over

3) Dip Station: All new Rogue Matador Dip attachment – This uses our new channel system to attach to the S-2 & 3

4) Safety Arms: The base on the new stands is 48” deep so you can use the new Safety arms on all three versions

5) Plate Storage: Add single or double plate storage to the new unit

We wanted to design a system that you can modify to your training needs and now it is here.  With the portability of this system, we can ship it via UPS ground and save a ton on shipping as well.

The feedback has been great so far and we are looking forward to bringing out more attachments for this to include a Yoke conversion kit!

The most frequently asked question is can you do pullups on this without it rocking.  The answer is yes but if you plan on doing the kipping type pullup then you need to secure it by using the plate storage, sandbagging or with our new bolt down feet. Check out a vid of our kipping on the S-3 demo.

Things are gearing up for a huge wave of new equipment, so keep an eye on our facebook page!  We are hiring more welders regularly now to keep up with everything, thanks to all of you for making that possible!

Industrial Revolution 2.0

My buddy Matt stopped over the other day to ask me what we were doing here. At first I didn’t know what to tell them then I thought about it and came up with what I thought best explains Rogue Fitness.

I told Matt to go back and ask his dad what his favorite tools were, you know the ones that were fifty years old and held a permanent spot in his tool box. Matt’s dad is a retired Iron Worker, he drove past my house in an old Chevy step side every day for 35 years. He built just about every building in Columbus Ohio which is something to be very proud of.
What I am trying to say is that the guy knows tools and I am certain does not need a fancy hammer to pound a nail in or a crazy wrench to tighten a bolt. I told Matt we have gone back and made that wrench and that simple hammer.  We are not reinventing the wheel we are building it the same way that has worked for hundreds of years.

There was a time when we made things in the United States and we were damn proud of them. We designed, cast, forged, machined and polished steel. When I started this business I couldn’t understand why we could not cast American Made Kettlebells, how is this possible. Well apparently it is possible because the fine people in Rhode Island are making them by the hundreds for us.

It is high time for all of us to begin building and inventing again, time to make things with your hands. I am tired of the excuses, look at the talented people around you and figure out how to make things happen. It is time for a second Industrial Revolution. Is there a factory in your home town that used to make something, where did all those skilled folks go? These people can sew shoes or build skyscrapers but for now they are doing nothing.

Time to be entrepreneurial and make something, go find a journeyman.

"51 Get ir Duns"

Dennis C. had his 51st birthday Rogue Style yesterday. Dennis requested, I mean demanded, that everyone wear a party hat, and blow their party horn between each exercise. Everyone did so with unexpected zeal. Especially Sam C. Happy birthday Dennis C. I hope you had a good time.

Rogue Running Team is back in action!!

Dust off your sneakers and dig out your mittens!
You Rogue Warriors asked for it and now you got it! The Rogue Running Team will take to the trail, the parking lot and wherever else we can get some miles in as we prepare for the Holiday Run @ Sharon Woods December 14th, 2008.

The Rogue Running Team will meet every Sunday at 11AM, starting November 16th, to train for the run. You Rogue Athletes know that we don’t have treadmills. So dig out your mittens, sweat pants, and your beanies because we will be hitting the trial regardless of the weather. Rain or shine, freezing or not, Rogue athletes are not fair weather athletes. We want to “train as you fight” and if I recall correctly Sharon Woods isn’t heated or indoors.

How do I join the Rogue Running Team?
– Tell one of the Rogue coaches that you want to put your fitness to the test.
– Sign the sign-in sheet in the lobby, be sure to put your current e-mail address.
– The cost is $30 and that includes long sleeve thermal “Rogue Hand-Grenade” shirt
You can pay by cash or you can just authorize us to automatically debit your checking account that you have set up for your membership. If you already have a long sleeve shirt you can choose on of our other shirts.
– Register at Run Wild Racing( http://www.runwildracing.com/RaceInfo.asp?nRaceID=183 ). Cost to register for the race is $30.

Note: There will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION, so be sure to register early and before the event. No race day registration allowed in the Metro Parks.

Race Day!
On race day all of the Rogue Running Team will meet up at Rogue Fitness at 7:30 AM and we will convoy over to Sharon Woods to warm up. Rogue will have picked up all of the registration packets, number bibs and event t-shirts for the competitors earlier in the week. So all you have to do is show up and run your butts off then drink some hot chocolate, pretty simple.

Even if you’re not racing we want you to show up to cheer on your fellow Rogue athletes as they all try not to freeze their butts off as they run 4 miles through Sharon Woods park.

Schedule
16 November 2008 – First Rogue Running Team workout at Rogue Fitness, Gahanna
12 December 2008 – Rogue picks up race packets at
Road Runner Sports – Columbus 535 Lakeview Plaza Drive – Worthington, Ohio 43085 (614) 896-2090

9:30 AM – 1st Rogue Runner crosses the finish line and receives their hot chocolate.
10:00 AM – All runners are in, high fives and “atta-boys” passed around.
10:01 AM – We all run to our cars so we don’t freeze to death and we head home, GOOD JOB!!

Go Fast! Joins the Rogue Inventory

Rogue Fitness is now an official dealer for Go Fast! Sports energy drink and apparel. Having searched far and wide for an energy supplement that meets our high standards for quality, I personally think Go Fast! meshes extremely well with our philosophy of “Harder. Faster. Stronger. Healthier.”

Short FAQ on some of our Equipment

DSCF2234.JPG
These are the kettlebells we carry, from left to right: Dragon Door(Email order only), KBC(Available in Grey or Black), Agatsu & American Kettlebell Club Competition Bells
DSCF2235.JPG
The ropes we carry have whipping on the end to prevent fraying and are made in the knotted in the US!
DSCF2236.JPG
All of our ropes have an i-spliced eyelet so that you can simply thread the whipped end through and pull tight. As long as you have a tree branch, truss or beam you don’t need a secondary device to hang the rope. The building will come down before you break this eyelet!
DSCF2237.JPG
The widths of some of the Kraiburg plates going from 45-10lbs(minus the 35sorry). I get asked the width of the 45 pretty often = 3.5″
DSCF2238.JPG
These are the new Hi-Tech Technique plates we are going to carry. They are available in 3.75kilo and will soon be available in 2.5/5/10 kilo. They are high density plastic without sleeves, you can load up with steel on the ends.
